Velma Akinyi from Kenya is a PP2 class learner, she will be starting grade 1 (class one) in April this year (2022) . She is a very active learner, bright and polite, very regular and very interested in learning.
Challenge:
Though Velma has both parents, her education support from parents is very minimal. The mother has epilepsy and the father is old. The old father is a herdsman and is the only breadwinner and has to cater for his family from his very meagre earnings. As a result, it is a struggle for him to cater for both Velma and brother’s school fees. While Velma has not suffered any seizures while in school, it has been observed that there are moments that she zones off and takes time before coming back to full sense of attentiveness. The parents and school leadership appreciate that given the aforementioned challenges, that there is a greater opportunity for Velma to receive closer academic and psychosocial support.
